Introducing a one of a kind event in a one of kind city! Uptown Columbus is hosting the city's inaugural Dragon Boat Festival, featuring the Uptown Dragon Boat Race down the Chattahoochee River during Memorial Day weekend. On Saturday, May 25th the largest urban whitewater course will be officially open for business, along with a variety of other activities and entertainment. The Dragon Boat Festival will be from noon until 5 pm on Saturday, and will feature teams of 22 people paddling down a (flatwater) race course in front of the Coca-Cola Space and Science Center. The competition will include many local corporate businesses racing against each other, as well as community groups and teams of friends and family!
Teams will also be fundraising as part of the competition. Individuals and teams that raise the most money will be rewarded! The proceeds from the fundraising effort will be benefiting the Children's Miracle Network at the Columbus Regional Medical Center. Forming a team is easy! Included in your team registration is a practice session where we will show you how to paddle and race. Practices sessions and race day include all of the necessary equipment such as a boat, paddles, lifevests, a drum and a steersperson/coach.
